After a brief 9-week spell as Director of Tourism, Culture and Events at Esterházy in summer 2016, Christoph Thoma decided to create his own company focusing on cultural strategy, design and project management. He named it CULTURELAB. The company works to develop cultural strategies and advises cities during their applications for the European Capital of Culture title.
Thoma previously worked as Managing Director of Bregenz Tourismus & Stadtmarketing GmbH, and was the driving force behind the European Capital of Culture 2024 bid from the Rhine Valley cities of Bregenz, Dornbirn, Feldkirch and Hohenems and the Bregenzerwald region in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. He was also Managing Director and Artistic Director of “Grazer Spielstätten Orpheum, Dom im Berg und Schloßbergbühne Kasematten GmbH” and of Bludenz Kultur gGmbH, and worked in the Artistic Operations Office (music promotion, children’s and youth projects) at Jeunesse Austria in Vienna.
